These hinges utilize a traditional design originating back in the 1800’s, are incredibly strong. Flush mounting is the most common method of installation. The hinge is mounted directly onto the face of the gate and post. We recommend a minimum 1/4” space be maintained between the gate and post to allow for expansion of the wood in changing seasons. Jamb mounting requires the cast iron cups be mounted on the side of the post. The recommended spacing between the gate and post varies depending on the hinge length utilized and how it is applied to the gate. Please refer to our Installation Details for more information.
